The University Park neighborhood is nested between the St John’s and Arbor Lodge neighborhoods with Lombard as it’s northern most boundary. Willamette Boulevard runs through the neighborhood providing alternative bike routes from major roads nearby.
The small University of Portland campus takes up a slight portion of this 1.3 square mile neighborhood. Although many students live in University Park, the small campus size doesn’t dominate the 7,600 people (in 2013) that live here.
Even though University Park has a college in the neighborhood, there is not a huge college vibe to the neighborhood. There are not a lot of bars and other amenities one might associate with a college crowd. What you do find is more of a sleepy community surrounded by activity.
University Park Attractions
Lombard Street is where most of the commercial activity in this neighborhood resides. The street is still in transition, but it offers a range of restaurants and a few small bars. Check out wonderful seafood eats at the family owned Fishwife. Or, if you feel like cooking or grabbing some quick munchies, stop by the New Seasons that recently opened in 2016.
Columbia Park borders University Park and offers a lot of wonderful amenities. From softball fields to an indoor swimming pool, Columbia Park is a great outdoor destination.
If being a spectator is more your thing, the University of Portland has a lot to offer as far as men’s and women’s sports. Basketball, baseball, and track and field are just a few sports the Portland Pilots are known for. If you go to a game, don’t forget to wear some purple and support the local team!
Stunning views overlooking the city and lush outdoor spaces make this neighborhood a wonderful place to explore.
