Concordia, known as “the best little neighborhood in Portland,” is one of the city’s most creative and diverse neighborhoods. It is located in Northeast Portland and as of 2016, the population was 9,445 people. The neighborhood includes a number of historic homes which are being restored for modern living while maintaining their roots. The neighborhood is also home to Concordia University.
One of the highlights of the Concordia neighborhood is the Alberta Arts District, which centers on NE Alberta Street. NE Alberta is considered by many a success story of the N/NE Economic Development Task Force, which envisioned a more prosperous and healthier neighborhood. Over the years, the Alberta Arts District transformed into a vibrant expression of Portland’s diversity and creative spirit.NE Alberta is now one of Portland’s most popular commercial streets and includes funky, independently-owned boutiques and coffee shops; unique art galleries, and much more.
The Concordia neighborhood has a distinctively community-oriented feel. The Concordia Newspaper is a free, self-supporting monthly publication run by Concordia residents, from February to December each year. Residents are invited to chime in with their own opinions.
NE Alberta is one of the neighborhood’s main attractions. Food carts are popular stops for dining on Alberta, as well as Bunk Bar, Aviary, and Salt & Straw Ice Cream. McMenamin’s Kennedy School is one of several McMenamin’s locations thatoffers food, drink, and movies in a renovated historic building. Ciao Vito Restaurant is an Italian restaurant on Alberta that has won awards by Portland’s publication “Willamette Week.” The Alberta Street Art Gallery showcases some of Portland’s vibrant art scene.
The neighborhood also includes a New Seasons Market, offering fresh and local organic groceries. New Seasons in Concordia is noted for its community-oriented approach to business, making it an ideal fit for the Concordia neighborhood.
