Ashcreek is a beautiful and tranquil neighborhood in southwest Portland, near the Far Southwest, Multnomah, Crestwood, and Maplewood neighborhoods. Winding roads (rather than Portland’s characteristic grid) give the feel of a neighborhood removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. The population as of 2016 was 5,469.
Ashcreek is located near the Ashcreek Natural Area and a number of other parks, making it an ideal location for those who would like to live in Portland’s metropolitan area but also enjoy the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. There is a diversity in home styles and the average home was built in 1971.
The neighborhood is largely residential. There are few businesses or commercial areas directly within the neighborhood. However, the neighborhood is located close enough to commercial areas that access to amenities is still relatively easy.
The Ashcreek Natural Area offers residents a peaceful oasis whilst still being in the city. In addition, nearby Gabriel Park—one of Portland’s larger parks—offers walking trails, softball and baseball fields, an area for dogs to run freely without a leash, and more. Maricara Park is an additional park in the neighborhood and includes 1,500 feet of new natural-surface trails and 2,600 feet of improved trails, a wetland, protected stream, important native plant species, and an older second-growth forest.
Tryon Creek State Park, Oregon’s only state park within a metropolitan area, is also located nearby. Miles of trails for walking, running, biking, and even horseback riding are offered at the park.
Ashcreek is located near the Multnomah neighborhood, which is known for dining, shopping, and more. Ashcreek is also located near the Garden Home area, which includes plenty of amenities and necessities. Washington Square Mall is also located relatively close to Ashcreek and is one of the largest malls in the Portland area.
